These are some of the things that affect our daily lives.  The municipal and school board elections are in progress - vote to elect the people who represent us.
 
Early Voting Continues until Tuesday, May 2!
 
Dallas County Vote Centers for Early Voting  
Dates, Times and Locations.
You can vote at any of the 54 locations. 
Saturday - 8 am to 5 pm
Sunday - noon to 6 pm
Monday and Tuesday - 7 am to 7 pm
 
Dallas County Vote Centers for Election Day
There are 366 vote centers on the list.
You can vote at any of the vote centers!
Saturday, May 6 from 7 AM to 7 PM
 
You must have a valid form of ID to vote.  See the link above for what forms are valid.
  
1. Create your own ballot at: VOTE411.org
 You can take paper with you to vote - print the ballot or create your own list.
     No Phones! 
     VOTE411 is in English and Spanish.

The House and Senate will be busy this week passing bills and sending them to the other chamber. There is still time in the session for these bills crossing over to pass both houses. 

 

Please note the updated action alerts for:

  • HB 12 - extending postpartum Medicaid coverage to 12 months
  • HB 5053 - criminal prosecution of election law violations in multiple counties
  • HB 636 - election judges allowed to carry firearm at polling place
  • SB 8 - the Governor’s voucher bill
  • SB 1045 - creating a 15th Court of Appeals with statewide jurisdiction

These alerts are in addition to the new alerts posted last week:

  • HB 2127 - the Death Star local preemption bill
  • SB 1933 - allowing the SOS to directly administer local elections
  • SB 1600 - requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote
  • SB 1070 - withdrawing from ERIC

LWVD Unit Meetings

 Unit Meetings for May 16, 17, and 18

 

The Tuesday and Thursday Meetings are scheduled for 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM 

 The topic: The Inside Scoop:  What's Going On at the Texas Legislature
 Tuesday, May 16: at 6060 North Central Expressway, 2nd floor conference room.
Thursday, May 18: at La Hacienda Ranch, 17390 Preston Road, Dallas, TX, 75252. (About 2 blocks north of Campbell Road)
 
The Wednesday Meeting is scheduled for 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
 The topic: Food Deserts in Dallas
 Wednesday, May 17: at the home of Honorable Harryette Ehrhardt, 3525 Turtle Creek Blvd, Apartment 8A, Dallas, TX.
 
 
 

LWV Dallas Annual Meeting
 
Click on the link  Events  to go to our calendar, then click on May 20 to register to attend this important meeting.  It will be on May 20 beginning at 10 am at the downtown Dallas Public Library, Room 6E.   A zoom link is also available if you cannot attend in person.  The zoom information will be sent after you register. Parking is available underground at the library with the entrance on Jackson St.    Box lunches will be available.  A ten dollar donation for lunch would be appreciated.
