Nominate Community Leaders!

2026 Making Democracy Work and Eleanor Sutherland Volunteer Awards

📢 The League of Women Voters of Dallas is thrilled to announce nominations are open for two prestigious awards that honor individuals who have made a significant impact on our community: the Making Democracy Work Award and the Eleanor Sutherland Volunteer Award.

🌱 The Making Democracy Work Award recognizes individuals who champion democracy and civic engagement in Dallas. Past recipients have advanced voting rights and amplified the voices of underrepresented individuals, leaving a lasting impact on our community.

🌿 Similarly, the Eleanor Sutherland Volunteer Award honors individuals whose volunteer efforts have made lasting impacts on our organization and the community. Named after Eleanor Sutherland, this award celebrates those who embody her commitment to improving society.

💐 The nominees for these awards should have a substantial history of leadership initiatives, contributions to democracy, and impact on the community. Let's honor our unsung sheroes and heroes by nominating those whose remarkable efforts deserve recognition. Submit nominations for the Making Democracy Work Award or the Eleanor Sutherland Volunteer Awards to highlight their extraordinary contributions.

⏳ For the Making Democracy Award nomination form, go here. For the Eleanor Sutherland Volunteer Award nomination form, go here. The deadline for submissions is July 30, 2025. For inquiries, contact Cecilia McKay at cemck@currently.com.

🤝 Let’s come together to celebrate the strength of community leadership and volunteerism in creating a more just, equitable, and dynamic democracy.

Warm regards,

League of Women Voters of Dallas Luncheon Committee

Good Trouble Lives On: March in Peace, Act in Power

“Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”
– Congressman John Lewis

Join the League of Women Voters Dallas and Indivisible Dallas for Good Trouble Lives On, a national day of action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.

Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, "Good Trouble" is the act of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change. Good Trouble is marches, protests, service work – any action where communities come together, take a stand against wrongdoings, and speak truth to power.

The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on July 17, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, we’re calling on Americans across the country to Make Good Trouble Together.

Voter Registration at Naturalization Ceremonies

In July, volunteers from LWV Collin County, Richardson and Dallas registered over 650 citizens at three days of USCIS naturalization ceremonies in Irving. With summer in full swing we need your help now, more than ever. We have lost many of our volunteers due to the location change from Plano and summer vacation.

If you’re a VDR for Dallas, Denton, Collin, or Tarrant counties, we need you! If you’re a VDR for multiple counties, that’s even better! If you’re a relatively new VDR, or if you just need a refresher event, let us know that—we can pair you with someone. Non-VDRs are always welcome, especially if you are a morning person, to help with setup and handing out voter registration forms.

For more information, contact project manager Cathy Murphree, LWV Richardson: newcitizen@lwvrichardson.org.

LWVD Office Move

We are delighted our League office is moving to the Bill J. Priest Center – Dallas College. Our new location is more centrally located and easy to get to and parking is much easier. The folks are friendly, the spaces are lovely, and they have more conference areas than we have now.

The new address is 1402 Corinth Street, Room 109, Dallas TX  75215. The phone number and email will remain the same. Our goal is to complete the process by the end of July.

If you would like to help, please go to the website Volunteer page under Participate. We have 5 different opportunities:

  1. A labeling party to help us label stationery with the new address.

  2. Help us sort paper files – this will be an ongoing process, and you will be paired with a mentor.

  3. Help pack up supplies.  We will move some of it and the mover will handle the rest.

  4. Help pack, move and rehang the proclamations, resolutions, and posters.

  5. Use your graphic skills to create a simple graphic for wayfinding to parking and to the new office withing the building.

If you have problems finding this on the website please send me an email or give me a call.

Thanks!  Diane Tasian, info@lwvdallas.org, 214 850-7054.  If you aren’t in my Contacts please leave a voicemail.
