LWVD Community Update
August 24th, 2025

🎉 North Texas Giving Day is coming up on September 18th, 2025!
📅 And for those who like to get a jump on things - early giving begins this week: Thursday, August 28th. To donate, click here, or visit www.northtexasgivingday.org and select “League of Women Voters Dallas”.
🌟 The mission of the League of Women Voters of Dallas is to empower voters, defend democracy and protect the freedom to vote. Your donation will help us do that work by funding major voter education programs including the creation and printing of the Voters Guide in English and Spanish for distribution across Dallas county.
🗳️ Whatever our background or zip code, in America we value our freedom and the right to vote. Thank you.

- October 24: Last day to apply for Ballot by Mail
- November 4: Election Day
- December 13: Joint Runoff Election

  •  Dallas College voter services teams are serving their respective campuses.

Communications

  •  AJ Cole is working with LWV TX on video clips for voter education.

  • Help her find young people – do you know students looking to fill service hours?
  • Help with translations to Spanish

Community Engagement:

  •  Respond to our survey (coming soon) – Do you work with other nonpartisan organizations?  Would you like to serve as liaison between the League and your other affiliations.

Administration:

  •  The office move is complete.  Here are a couple of remaining tasks:
  • Adding labels to some of the stationery with the new address.
  • A new map graphic with our office at the Bill J Priest Center.

Help a Board member:

  •  Many are creating committees in the coming months.
  •  Volunteer Committee – please join me to:
  • Help ensure the voter services teams have the supplies they need.
  • Help monitor opportunities on the website.
  • Help determine other ways to strengthen support of our volunteers.

What's Going On

Do you wonder what our elected officials are up to? Some LWV chapters have Observer teams that monitor public meetings. A couple of years ago Ashley Washington tried mightily to get some teams started, but there weren’t enough volunteers.

If you are interested, check out the live streams for the City, County, and DISD.

The good news is that Dallas Free Press has a team called Dallas Documenters  that does go to meetings. They train Dallas residents, pay them to attend meetings, to create reports, and then publish them on their website. Go to the link to see some of their work.

This program is part of a national organization, City Bureau.

To learn how to be a Documenter or to support this effort, check out the websites in this article.

I learned about this project when Keri Mitchell, publisher of Dallas Free Press, partnered with us on candidate forums last Spring.
