 | | Action Alert: Support Consolidating Local Election Dates!
In November 2024, Dallas residents overwhelmingly approved a city charter amendment to shift local elections from May to November, aligning them with state and federal races. This would boost voter turnout, reduce voter fatigue and save taxpayer dollars.
The proposal to move the City of Dallas election date from May in odd-numbered years to November in odd-numbered years will come to a full vote of the City Council on November 12. Prior to this vote, the item will be considered by the Administrative Affairs Ad Hoc Committee (CMs Moreno [Chair], Cadena, Johnson, Mendelsohn, and Stewart). It's important to voice your support for the proposal now, in order to encourage the Ad Hoc Committee to move forward with the vote!
Action items:
- Please contact your City Councilmember individually as well as any others (especially on the Ad Hoc Committee, but outreach to all is important) to advocate in favor of the move. Find your Councilmember and their contact information here.
Read more about the issue in the Dallas Free Press, published after the extremely low turnout for the May 2025 municipal election. | Zoning 101 Community Talks

| Voter Services At Naturalization Ceremonies
Over the summer, the way the League supports voter registration of newly naturalized citizens changed. Now, all certified Volunteer Deputy Registrars (VDRs) for Dallas County are going through Dallas County Elections Department to volunteer.
If you are interested in helping with this, please contact Esmeralda Garcia, at esmeralda.l.garcia@dallascounty.org or (214) 819-6346.
As this new process develops, we will provide a more detailed update.

| THANK YOU Volunteers! For Vote411 & Materials Distribution
| Elizabeth Walley and her team again succeeded in bringing VOTE411 to the voters of Dallas County. Kudos to her team for ensuring that every jurisdiction in Dallas County that had a measure on the ballot was covered, for helping gather candidate responses, and for getting all of it into the software that was then downloaded for the Voters Guides.
The distribution team was also incredibly successful despite a 5-hour delay by the printer. LWVD sent out a total of 150 batches of Voters Guides ranging in size from a bundle of 25 to our largest delivery of 5,000. A few large quantities were delivered by courier, and over 10,000 Voters Guides were delivered to 146 locations across Dallas County by our amazing volunteers! | | |

In total, 21,000 Voter Guides and about 40,000 rack cards (with QR codes linking to VOTE411) were distributed. Although there were 150 batches delivered, there were many more final destinations. Here are a few examples:
- 4,500 Voters Guides and 4,500 rack cards went to the Dallas Public Library which distributes to each of its 34 branches.
- 5,000 Voters Guides and 9,000 rack cards went to Texas Metro News, which distributes them throughout Dallas County on its delivery route.
- March to the Polls distributes 8,400 rack cards to St. Mark's, Greenhill, Dallas ISD (38 schools), Garland ISD (8 schools), Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD (5 schools), Richardson ISD (4 schools), and DeSoto ISD (1 school).
Early Voting starts tomorrow, October 20. Please use www.Vote411.org to research the pro and con statements for each of the constitutional amendment propositions and for the local propositions in Duncanville, Farmers Branch, Garland ISD, Mesquite, and Sunnyvale. It is so easy to cast a vote when you have done the research and made notes in advance. (Friendly reminder to print your notes in advance since you cannot open your phone in the poll booth.)
