Election Confusion
There was massive confusion during the Primary election, especially on Election Day, March 3rd. Not since 2018 has Dallas County held an election that was precinct based. Dallas County was approved to use countywide Vote Centers in 2018. Dallas County had been using Vote Centers for early voting for a long time. Not all Texas counties use Vote Centers, so their elections are precinct based.
The Republican Party chair chose not to hold joint elections for election day. Kudos to Commissioner Andy Sommerman for suggesting a Navigator program to help voters find their correct voting location. I served as a Navigator and saw many voters coming to where they last voted only to discover they needed to go to a location near their home depending on which party they wanted to vote for. The situation was aggravated by the fact that the Texas Secretary of State had not uploaded the information from Dallas County Elections to votetexas.gov and so voters were getting bad information from the state.
Early voting for the Primary Runoff from May 18 to May 22 will be countywide Vote Centers, but on May 26, election day it will be precinct based.
Avoid the chaos. Please tell your networks, friends and family to VOTE EARLY when we have countywide Vote Centers available! And, if they vote on Primary Runoff election day, urge them to go to Dallas County Election Department’s website: www.dallascountyvotes.org. They will find maps showing voting locations under Public Information.
In Dallas County, only election day for the Primary (and Primary Runoff election day if needed) are managed by the Republican and Democratic parties. Early Voting for the Primaries and all other elections are managed by Dallas County Elections Department. They use the more accurate, cost-effective, and convenient countywide Vote Centers.
