The Dallas County Jail Mental Health Services Analysis (DCJMHSA)
The DCJMHSA is a coalition between the League of Women Voters of Dallas, Human Rights Dallas, the Texas Jail Project, and Gateway Alliance. Our goal is to examine the services currently provided to mentally ill and intellectually and developmentally delayed justice-involved people in Dallas County. Our focus is on Dallas County Jail, but our inquiry encompasses the full gamut of services in the community, as well as those within the punishment system.
To date we have conducted interviews with various individuals who provide or have provided services to our populations of interest; begun researching the gaps in services to these people; started to gather information on best practices in Texas and in other states; and inquired into the funding streams and expenditures behind the healthcare and criminal justice systems.
If this sounds interesting, or you have expertise or contacts that would be helpful to our research and would like to help, please contact us!
